A 1950s Style Winter Wedding in Crystal Palace, London

Just before Christmas I spent a wonderful day photographing Sarah and Ian’s beautiful Wedding in South London. It was a beautiful sunny day with clear blue skies at the end of what had been a pretty wet and stormy week in December.

I met Sarah at 47 Hair in Crystal Palace where she was having her hair styled. 47 is a fantastic hairdressers-meets-boutique with a great selection of clothes and accessories to tempt you when you pop in to have your hair done. Heather gave Sarah’s hair a fifties feel that complimented her dress perfectly.

We then went to Sarah’s apartment, where Ian and close family were getting ready. Sarah and Ian are both into vintage, and their flat is filled with fantastic vintage homewares and as you may remember from their pre-wedding photographs.

Sarah chose a light pink satin dress with a full circle skirt that had a gorgeous 50s shape.

Ian wore a vintage suit and the tie his father wore to his own wedding in 1962.

The transport for the day was a beautiful vintage Morris Minor.

The ceremony was held at the Old Palace at Bromley Civic Centre, an 18th century building with plenty of photogenic features and beautiful interiors.

There was even some spontaneous dancing as the newly-weds left the room!

We made use of the panelled entrance hall and colonnaded veranda to take some more formal photographs, and had some fun throwing confetti before the Morris Minor took Sarah and Ian to Crystal Palace for their drinks reception.

The drinks reception was held in the downstairs bar at The Exhibition Rooms in Crystal Palace, a warm, relaxed cocktail lounge, where everyone chatted over snowballs and prosecco.

The wedding party then went up to for lunch in the restaurant, which looked beautiful with its tasteful Christmas decorations and stunning chandelier.

I had such a fantastic time photographing Sarah and Ian’s day and thank them very much for choosing me as their Wedding photographer. It felt so special to be a part of such a wonderful, intimate wedding with such lovely people. Thanks also to Heather at 47 Hair, the staff at The Old Palace and The Exhibition Rooms for making sure everything was perfect for Sarah and Ian.
