August is one of my favourite months as it’s my birthday month and often means holidays!
Even though it was (gulp) a big one this year, I still love celebrating birthdays. This year I went on a picnic with some friends where we played with diablos and ate a ridiculous amount of party food, and I then took a trip to the seaside for more food, lazing in the sun and dipping my toes in the sea.
Tim and I managed to book a holiday at the very last minute and spent a wonderful 5 nights in Sorrento, Italy.
Hazelnut gelato
We ate some delicious food – gelato, pizza, pasta, mozzarella – pretty much everything we could, really! We used Trip Advisor a lot and that helped us find lots of restaurants that we probably wouldn’t have known about otherwise.
Marina Grande
It was lovely and warm, but not too hot that we couldn’t do anything, with beautiful blue skies and a crystal-clear sea.
Tim found a really good guidebook written by Rick Steve – it gave us excellent tips on where to go, when best to go and routes with information along the way. We often found ourselves saying ‘what’s Rick got to say about it’ and checking things out in the book.

The view from Axel Munthe House, Capri
One place we visited that might be of particular interest to any couples interested in a destination wedding is St Francesco Cloister – this lovely courtyard can be hired for wedding ceremonies, and in fact the first time we went there we couldn’t go in because that was exactly what was happening! We came back a few days later and had a look – it is so beautiful, and in a great location right by the sea and a 5 minute walk from the centre of Sorrento.

The view from my chair
We did quite a few touristy things, but I think my favourite might have been the chairlift up a mountain on the island of Capri – it was incredible! So peaceful and incredible views.
For my birthday Tim got us both a day ticket to Reading Festival! It was great to relive our teens a bit and see some great bands (including my favourite, Nine Inch Nails). We did cheat by staying in a Holiday Inn but it was a really great day.
So basically another fun-filled month! Hope you all had good summers too!
